What is “active learning”? • Students engage material: talking, writing, reading, reflecting, or questioning • Students are doing things - opposite of passively watching lectures • Students are engaged and involved in the learning process • Active Learning: learning occurs teacher-tostudent, student-to-teacher, and student-tostudent. • Involves cognitive activity

“active learning” components = games, puzzles, Learning Interaction Objects, self-check quizzes, introductions, study groups, group assignments – optional or mandatory, DB, Wiki report comments, email, phone, games, synchronous meetings, test questions on student content, LAB work! Student – content Student– student video lectures with handouts/worksheets, assignments, animations, problems, case studies, HW problems, student created content, essays Student– faculty DB, recorded introduction, personalized feedback on assignments and tests – written, audio and video, phone, synchronous sessions, prompt email replies, surveys 5 and feedback
