The meeting with Annalisa Strada On Thursday, 19 th October 2017, at 9 o’clock, all the 3 rd year students of I. C. Mediglia went to theatre of Mediglia to meet Annalisa Strada, the author of the book “Io, Emanuela, agente della scorta di Paolo Borsellino”. There were some teachers with us, the head teacher and some members of the Town Council. Annalisa Strada spoke about Emanuela Loi’s story and then she wanted us to ask her some questions. This meeting was very important because our school is working on the project called “Legalità” (Legality, in English) which helps us reflect upon how many innocent people have been killed by the mafia.

THE BOOK • TITLE: Io, Emanuela, agente della scorta di Paolo Borsellino. • AUTHOR: Annalisa Strada. • TYPE OF BOOK : biography. • SETTING: Italy (Sardinia, Rome and Palermo) between 1967 and 1992. • MAIN CHARACTERS: Emanuela Loi (short red curly hair, brown eyes, short and thin. Positive and clever), Claudia, her sister (chatty and friendly), her parents (kind and understanding), her boyfriend Andrea (who loved and supported her in her decisions).

PLOT: Emanuela Loi lived with her brother and sister, older that her, and her parents that she loved a lot. After school she wanted to become a teacher, because that was her dream. At that time her life was happy and carefree. Instead of becoming a teacher, she joined the state police in 1989. She was moved to Palermo two years later. In June 1992 she was in charge of protecting the magistrate Paolo Borsellino. She died in the massacre of Via d’Amelio with him and her colleagues on 19 th July. This is the cover of the book

• MAIN THEMES: love for life and work , sense of responsibility, family love, courage. • BEST PART AND CARACTER AND WHY: the most beautiful part of the book is when she dies because it is the most moving, sad and meaningful part. • PERSONAL COMMENT: we really liked this book because it speaks of a girl who is one of the innocent victims of the mafia.
