Young people in our area don’t have a lot of opportunities, so including them in politics would help to solve this… Letting young people vote would make them have an interest in the country and take pride in their government… Write a plan – 5 mins Lowering the voting age… Teenagers are the ones who will have to live longer with the consequences of a new government… You COULD argue that 16 year olds aren’t responsible enough, but there are some irresponsible 20 year olds who are allowed to vote! Point: 16 year olds should be allowed to vote in general elections. A Fact or Statistic: 72% of 16 year olds surveyed said that they would vote if they had the right to do so. Say Something: This is a higher percentage than the number of adult voters who come out for elections, so it shows that 16 year olds would be engaged in the process and take it seriously. Anecdote: I am 16, and I find it insulting that people think we can’t make our own decisions! Technique: Unfair, unjust and unreasonable! A Solution: change the voting age and do democracy a favour!
