Task 2 - Researching your Theme! To create a thought provoking piece of theatre, you must be informed on your theme/topic and know what you’re talking about! This takes research! Spend time educating yourself about your chosen theme, and present this research somehow. You can present it in: - A Mind Map (example on next slide) A Powerpoint Presentation An informative leaflet/booklet A simple page of writing/notes

Lesson 3 - Task 1 - Understanding Set Design In Theatre Set design is an important part of almost any theatre production, as almost every show will utilize some sort of set, however minimal. Sets can be abstract, highly realistic, or anything in between, and they are a chance for a designer to showcase interesting concepts, new techniques, and unusual materials. The primary function of a set, of course, is to provide the audience with some context for the play, but it can also be a chance to create something stunning to draw in the audience. TASK - Read through the ‘Set Design Glossary’ on the next slide and either make a mind map or make notes in your own format summarising all of the Set Design elements.

Task 2 - Planning your Set! Create a mood board of ideas for a set design for your production, this can be any location included in your narrative. *A mood board is a collage of images, words, colours and shapes. I would like images of ideas for set, furniture and props.

Task 3 - Sketch Your Set Design! On a plain piece of paper sketch

Task 3 - Sketch Your Set Design! On a plain piece of paper sketch your set design ideas for the location you chose for your mood board. Label your sketch explaining what it is. Don't forget to use the correct keywords from the Glossary I provided! Try to include colour, texture and size details of everything you decide on!

Lesson 4 - Creating a 3 D Model of your Set Design! You are going to create a 3 D model of your set for the location you have planned. Examples on the next slide! First thing, collect some materials to use for your model. Eg. Cereal boxes, Old shoe box, Scrap paper, Sweet wrappers, Tape, Glue, etc. Next, begin creating your set! Try and make it as detailed as possible, including all of the ideas from sketch & mood board!
