Communion Rite The Communion Rite is the part of the Mass in which we receive the Eucharist. It is divided into six parts.
Communion Rite Lord's Prayer Sign of Peace Lamb of God Lord I am not worthy prayer Communion Prayer after Communion
Lord's Prayer We stand recite the Our Father all together. This is another way we can prepare for Communion. In the prayer, we say “forgive us our trespasses. ” Trespasses are sins, so when we say this, we are asking God to forgive our sins.
Sign of Peace The priest says “The peace of the Lord be with your always. ” We respond “And with your spirit. ” The priest says “Let us offer each other the sign of peace. ” We shake hands with the people around us using our right hand. We say “peace be with you. ”
Lamb of God When this prayer starts, that is our signal that the sign of peace is over. The priest breaks the large host. We say this prayer: Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace. Then we kneel down.
Lord I am not worthy The priest holds up the Body and Blood of Jesus and says “ Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. ”
Lord I am not worthy We say “Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. ” When we say this we tell God we know we are unworthy to receive Communion and that we believe he will come to us and make us better. Remember, this prayer comes from the miracle story in the Bible when Jesus healed the Roman soldier's servant.
