What IS Common Core State Standard? Common Core, at its core, is our academic standards for our education system. What do students have to know by the end of each grade level in math and language arts? Not only that, but what are the ways in which the students have to be taught to solve those problems. In that way, it is also a standard for teachers and districts to meet. The hope is that Common Core gets students college ready and makes them competitive in global communities.

Discussion Q’s Will Common Core dumb down standards or raise them? "What's more important? " Linn asks. "To tell the truth to parents about where their kids are really performing? Or to continue to make them believe they're doing really well, only until they get into the workforce or they go to college and they're finding out they need to be put in a remedial English class? " - Dane Linn, a vice president of the Business Roundtable who oversees its Education and Workforce Committee. Which would you argue is “more important? ” We saw some of the downfalls of standardized testing, which are used to test common core material. Brainstorm ways to assess if students have reached the standard, without a standardized test. If a standardized test is necessary how can it be made better?
