En español… * = MUST MATCH IN GENDER In Spanish, they use a similar format (called the short form) to express possession. • My = mi(s) • Your (informal) = tu(s) [no accent] • His/her/your (formal) = su(s) • Our = nuestro(s)/nuestra(s)* • Y’all’s (SP) = vuestro(s)/vuestra(s)* • Their/you all’s = su(s) These are placed BEFORE the noun. ex. Confusiones potenciales Since the form su can mean 7 different things: ◦ his, her, its, your, their (masc. /fem. ), your (pl. ) If there is confusion, the owner can be identified by asking who the item belongs to: ◦ ¿De quién? And responded with the “de” form introduced on the previous slide Ejemplo: ◦ Es su lápiz. (It is her pencil. ) ◦ -¿De quién? (Of whom? -Whose pencil? ) ◦ De María. (of María. – María´s pencil. )
