Equipment needed • School uniform • Pencil case with pencil, colours, rubber, ruler, glue stick and sharpener • P. E. kit; short and indoor shoes • School bag • Reading bag (available from school office or online retailer of choice) • Water bottle • A jacket every day • Waterproof trousers and sun cream/sun hat *Please name all items so they can be returned if lost*

Transition for 20/21 Transition this year will be different to our usual process We will send a weekly transition email, by the end of term you will have received; ● Top tips for preparing for school ● Videos of our school and learning in action ● A letter/film from your child’s buddy ● A transition passport to complete together and bring to school when they start ● A picture prompt card containing a picture of your P 1 teacher, classroom and the shape where your child’s class line will be for coming in to school ● An online meeting with your teacher and perhaps some classmates ● A handbook for starting P 1

Phased entry to school • • • We don’t yet know what the phased entry to school will look like this year but hope to share this with you by the end of June in our P 1 handbook Usually there are 3 weeks of half days Usually we have our children come in to school to visit the day before they start Usually we have 2 or 3 groups starting over the course of 7 days THIS MAY NOT BE THE CASE THIS YEAR THOUGH

First day at school • • Will be your child’s special day! Lining up - our P 1 pupils line up near the main door and come in through the door to the left hand side of it. Each class lines up at a coloured shape and we’ll share your child’s line up shape on their ‘picture prompt card. ’ Snack - please bring something small to eat in packaging they can open independently The playground - senior pupils and PSAs will help your child

What will they do in Primary 1? • • Numeracy, Literacy & Health & Wellbeing Introduction to Reading, Phonics and Writing Interdisciplinary Learning Outdoor Learning as often as possible

How we support you… • Teachers and school management available to support any difficulties or queries • Clear channels of communication • Information sessions and parent events • Share your child’s learning and school experience via Seesaw and Spotlight on Learning films.

How you can support us… • Share relevant information • Join in with the school events, support the PTA, help our school if you can. When this is possible! • Trust us, we have your child’s best interests at heart • Consistently engage with school to support your child, this may be with behaviour, social skills and/or learning • Support your child with his/her reading and homework. • Encourage a growth mindset
