However, topics do not always have names Each name may exist in multiple forms: l l l A name should always have exactly one base name, but can have one or more variant Names TM provides the facility to assign multiple base names to a single topic and to provide variants of each base for use in specific processing contexts (such as language, domain, geographical area, historical period, etc. ) Base Name l l Variant Name l l Is an alternative form of a base name, that is optimized for a particular computational purpose, such as sorting or display. However, sometimes the same subject is represented by more than one topic, the way to differentiate them is: l Subject identity (when the subject is an addressable information source, its identiy should be established directly through its address. ) l Subject indicator (subject descriptors) l l 3/11/2021 When a subject can not be addressed, use indicator to provide a positive, unambiguous indication of the identity of a subject.
