2019 Activities • A year of solid progress with no notable crises (last year: planning application, kitchen & manager) • Steady re-building of the reputation of the Coffee Shop through: • Outstanding customer service • High quality food and beverages • Varying and extending the menu • See the evidence on Tripadvisor
2019 Activities - Retail • In April we added a custom-built retail unit to the Coffee Shop • This has significantly improved the look of our retail offering, and the overall quality image of the Coffee Shop • The range of items on offer has been extended • Generally it is aimed at the visitor market • It is firmly at the premium end of the market • Results to date are positive, but there is room for improvement and we continue to experiment with products and pricing.
Future plans • Evolution rather than revolution • Continued development of menus • Continued development of the retail offering • Focus on activities to draw in a wider group of Threlkeld residents • Evening events • Co-operation with School and Church • Promotion and community outreach activities • Prepare for the re-opening of the railway path • The re-opening is scheduled for this time next year. • Prior experience is that this will significantly increase foot-fall during family holiday periods. We will be looking at how we can manage capacity to continue providing outstanding service to an increased customer base.
Financial results FY 2019 (Note: financial year end is 31 March)
Results • Note • In addition, the Coffee Shop pays £ 10, 157 to the Village Hall Trust for use of the facility covering rent, rates, heating, lighting, waste and general maintenance. • 2020 financial year to date is looking very positive • New management continues to deliver significant improvements in revenue and profit over prior years • The closure of the railway path still has a negative effect on us. However, the loss is being mitigated by the current good performance.
Conclusion • The Coffee Shop continues to provide a significant, and increasing, contribution to the Village Hall Trust from on-going profit, rent and historical reserves • Thank you, again, to our magnificent staff, to our volunteer directors … • … and all our wonderful customers
