(Castania 2003) n We chose to use words that convey sensitivity and understanding not because we want to be “correct” but because how we use words affects people – their concept of themselves and members of their group and the ability to create and maintain authentic relationships across differences. n [terms] allow us acknowledge, speak about, and deal with the outcomes of racial and color divisions of the past and present, while moving toward a more genuine partnership in future.
