When did this group begin? • 2018 CEAL Cataloging Workshop • Presentation: CJK Demographic and Genre Terms • The idea of establishing the CJK SACO funnel project was discussed and supported by the CEAL community. • Submit proposals for additions to Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), LC Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT), LC Demographic Group Terms (LCDGT), LC Medium of Performance Thesaurus for Music (LCMPT), and LC Classification (LCC) schedules. • In light of the linked data development, SACO supports the creation of controlled vocabularies, genre terms, faceted vocabularies and URIs. • Develop a working model • Promotes the collaboration between cataloging librarians and CJK studies librarians. • The CJK Studies Librarians can propose the ideas of new subject terms through the web form or emails. The cataloging librarians will submit the subject proposal to the LC system.

Training model: interactive and focused • Thanks to our trainer, Janis Young, to design the training sessions with the following principles. • Planned for a class of 12 to maybe 20 trainees • Includes independent exercises that generate discussion • These classes are highly technical, and the trainees are likely to have lots of questions. • Can adequately answer all of the questions that will arise the trainees and also get through the material in the time allotted.

Called for participants • As advised by the Library of Congress, the Team coordinators sent out an email to the CEAL community to recruit core participants. • Stella monitored the responses and answered questions from the CEAL librarians. Sixteen institutions responded and confirmed that they would participate in the training as core participants. They are the librarians who confirmed that they will submit SACO proposals to LC after the training. Members of this core group attended the training sessions, worked on the exercises, and participated in the discussions. • 45 registered participants from the CEAL community as the observers: • They were not able to use Chat, or ask Questions, during the sessions. They were muted throughout the sessions. • The two lists of participants were sent to the Library of Congress training coordinators.

The trainer’s feedback on our participants • Two LC colleagues assisted the trainer in moderating Q&A and group discussion in the first session, but decided to let the participants interact with the trainer via chat or speaking (un-mute) directly. • The trainer was very pleased with all participants for great questions and responding to the trainer’s questions. It fulfills the purpose of this focused training program, specially designed for this funnel group. • By the end of the last training session, Janis felt sad that this training program was almost ending. • The implementation team members heard very much positive feedback from all participants and LC colleagues.
