Relation between music and body conditions Sergej Zwaan
System that learns how people react to music (classification) Uses this knowledge to affect body conditions (reinforced learning)
System Musical elements like; bpm, pitch and volume Body elements like; heartbeat, blood pressure and temperature
Issues • A certain BPM can affect a certain heartbeat (increase or decrease) • A start and end heartbeat per reading are necessary. • People will react differently on different songs
Input/output Classification System: reading song 1 Input: Start heartbeat 1 Output: Random Song (BPM) 2 Input: End heartbeat 3
Read start heartbeat Xs Play random song Read end heartbeat Xe If Xe - Xs > 0 Put the song into class: Increase If Xe – Xs = 0 Put the song into class: Stabile If Xe – Xs < 0 Put the song into class: Decrease
Classification Different classes can be made for example: Class heartbeat 90 80: Abba – Mama Michael Jackson – Thriller Class heartbeat 90 81: Run DMC – It’s tricky Adele – Chasing pavements Class heartbeat 70 75: Snow Patrol – Run Class ………. . etc
Classification The system has to be run with a lot of different people A huge amount of classes can be created ( about 900 classes) Songs can appear in multiple classes
How to use the classes to affect body conditions?
Getting the heartbeat from 90 to 60 Use a song from Class 90 60 a song from Class 90 80 + a song from Class 80 60 etc
Getting the heartbeat from 90 to 60 The combination of classes with the lowest amount of songs will be rewarded. When a class hasn’t got the proper result like for example: class 90 80 will only get to 85, a second class will automatically be added, in this case class 85 80.
