CORE VALUES A Pleasant Grove student/athlete will: • Understand that being a member of an athletic team is a privilege. Student/athletes must abide by the rules and they must conduct themselves, on and off the field, as positive role models who exemplify good character. • Work hard on the field, in the classroom and in the community. • Be considered ambassadors of the school. • Exhibit good sportsmanship on and off the field at all times, both in and out of the season of sport. • Win with class and lose with dignity.

 • Student/athletes will make academics their top priority – students first, athletes second.

• Student/athletes will make academics their top priority – students first, athletes second. Students must meet minimum academic standards in order to tryout/compete and must maintain the required academic standards throughout the season • • The athlete will be committed to team goals. This implies that personal performance is not focused on the individual but is directed toward achieving team goals and team unity. • • The athlete will be loyal to the coaching staff. The quality of athletic experience and success depends on loyalty and good working relationships between team members and the coaching staff. If a problem between coach and athlete arises, both have the responsibility to work out a solution through good communication. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES

• The athlete will maintain top physical condition by eating properly, getting sufficient rest and observing positive health and fitness habits. As a PGHS athlete, it is essential to abstain from the use of tobacco products, alcohol and illegal drugs, including performance enhancers. Team success depends on maximum performance, mentally and physically, by each athlete. • • The athlete will exhibit good values and conduct at all times. This is especially important during athletic contests. Respect for opponents and officials must be evident at all times. Such attitudes are a reflection on individual athletes, coaches, teams and Pleasant Grove High School as a whole. • • The athlete will attend every practice and contest. It is understood that practices and games are played during holiday periods and while other school events are occurring. He/she is expected to give full effort, mentally and physically, in practice and in competition. Any exception to attendance at practice and contests must be resolved by the athlete, the athlete’s family, and the coach prior to the absence. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES

• Social media will be used only in a respectful manner that reflects positively on him/herself, teammates, coaches, the program and the school. Texting will only be used to communicate among team members and coaching staff regarding team related activities. • • The athlete will accept responsibility for the care and maintenance of all schoolissued equipment, as well as their personal belongings.
