NCRQ The National Compliance and Risk Qualifications – NCRQ – has been established by

NCRQ The National Compliance and Risk Qualifications – NCRQ – has been established by a number of leading experts in health and safety including representatives of some of the UK’s largest employers including the BBC, Royal Mail and Siemens plc, specialists from the Health and Safety Executive, legal experts, and academics. Students work through a series of real life case studies – each one introducing new legislation, risks and concepts. The emphasis is on problem-based learning to give students the skills and confidence to teach themselves. The Certificate in Applied Health and Safety (HSD 1) can be built upon by the Certificate in Personal Injury Liability (HSD 2) for those organisations with public interaction or a higher likelihood of civil claims. This can be extended even further to the Diploma in Applied Health and Safety for safety practitioners or managers of higher risk activities.

Why I chose the NCRQ – feedback from other students “I took the NEBOSH general cert a while before embarking on the NCRQ cert and diploma. I found the NCRQ more suited to my learning style. The online forums help students bounce off each other and support from the tutors excellent. Recommended. “I have just completed my NCRQ Diploma and found it to be challenging, based upon real life case studies it encourages you to get out there and find the information yourself. Absolutely loved doing it and found it very rewarding. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. “ “It’s the most valuable qualification I have ever done!” “Some of the learning required is not just limited to the workbooks - you need to do your own research to complete the assignments and the NCRQ website has further information in the members area which is part of the learning. ” “I also started with NEBOSH and completed my NCRQ this year. I preferred NCRQ as it suits my learning and evaluation style. It's generally cheaper too. ” “I found NCRQ to be excellent, helps to put knowledge gained into real life scenarios. Hardest part with being distance learning is discipline to setting time aside to work through workbooks and completing assignments. Depends on preferred learning style. ” “I can’t recommend it enough and it has by far been the most valuable health and safety course I’ve undertaken so far. ”

Support available Student support forum Every unit has a dedicated student support forum. This is a great way to get advice and support from other students. The forums are monitored by a student support team and tutors during office hours. Asking a question here will mean that others can also share and learn from the responses. Tutor support NCRQ qualifications are delivered through self-directed learning with full tutor Every student is allocated a personal tutor when they start a qualification. The tutor is available for support on any aspect of the course, and can be contacted via the support forum, e-mail, or telephone call back. To reflect the hours that individuals typically study, NCRQ offers full tutor support : 9 am-8 pm Monday - Friday 12 -2 pm on Saturday & Sunday 12 -2 pm on UK Holidays (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day). All NCRQ tutors are either former inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive, or former director-level safety practitioners.

Getting started – my. NCRQ • NCRQ has developed an online learning environment called my. NCRQ. • New students will normally only have access to the module Legal system in England Wales upon enrolling. This introductory unit contains an e-learning module which covers the essential pre-requisite knowledge for the course. • When your tutor has reviewed the initial assessment you are given access to the main unit(s) on which you have enrolled. • The NCRQ style of learning requires you to work progressively through the workbook, thinking about each concept and undertaking activities in order. • As you work through the workbook you will be able to undertake assignments. • Students receive a full colour workbook which guides them through each case study. • The workbook contains a number of activities to undertake – such as researching legislation, reading HSE guidance, analysing a scenario and giving their opinions.

Assessment Under each assignment you will be able to read through the learning objectives

Assessment Under each assignment you will be able to read through the learning objectives that are covered in an assessment and the time you are allocated to complete it – typically either two or four weeks. The assignment pack will contain: • Assessment criteria – what is being assessed • A scenario – based upon a realistic workplace situation • A task – what you need to do • Additional information – which you may need to review or analyse When you have completed your assignment you must upload it to my. NCRQ before the appropriate deadline (midnight at the end of the date given). NCRQ qualifications have been developed under the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). Rather than using numerical marking, an NCRQ student must demonstrate competence in every assessment criteria. Each assignment will be used to assess one or more assessment criteria. Where a student can demonstrate adequate competence in every assessment criteria, they will be awarded the qualification.

Grades The final grade for each unit is determined by looking at all the grades of all completed assessments by the student. Once an assignment has been passed you are not permitted to resubmit all or part of the assessed work in order to seek to improve or change a grade. You will receive feedback on your assignment after it has been marked. In order to ensure independence and consistency, NCRQ assessments are marked by assessors and not your tutor. If your submission is not successful at the first attempt, the assignment is regarded as an unsuccessful submission. It will be returned with a “refer” grade and you will need to revise and re-submit the assessment which includes a small cost.

Validation interview A validation interview will take place only after all of the assessment

Validation interview A validation interview will take place only after all of the assessment criteria has been met. This means a student will have already demonstrated that they have the knowledge and skills to be awarded a qualification. The purpose of the validation interview is to ensure that you have completed all of the work yourself. This involves checking photographic ID over a video call and an informal discussion: - About the course - Your knowledge of key facts - Questions about the assessments that have been submitted The interview is informal and will last about 10 minutes.
