 • Orchestra (Grade 6; year-long): Learn how to read music and play stringed

• Orchestra (Grade 6; year-long): Learn how to read music and play stringed instruments, choosing among violin, viola, cello, and upright bass. Learn basic techniques, rhythms, and how to play together as a team. 6 th grade orchestra is designed for beginners with no experience necessary. Regular practice at home is expected. • Orchestra (Grade 7; year-long): Learn more advanced technique and dive into the intricate world of sheet music, where every instrument weaves a musical puzzle in order to produce a song. Gain an introduction to music theory and composition, explore the joys of writing music, and develop a deeper understanding of musical form. Regular practice at home is expected. • Orchestra (Grade 8; year-long): Learn more advanced technique and dive into the intricate world of sheet music, where every instrument weaves a musical puzzle in order to produce a song. • Band (Grade 6; year-long): Learn how to read music notation and play a band instrument. Instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion. 6 th grade band is designed for beginners with no experience necessary. Regular practice at home is expected. • Band (Grade 7; year-long): Learn more intricate technique, music theory, marching fundamentals, and start playing some of the concert band repertoire. • Choir (Grade 8; semester): Learn, practice, and perfect the art of making music through singing and movement. Music will consist of pop, jazz, classical, and Broadway standards. • Spanish (Grade 6, 7, and 8, semester): Introduction to the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking cultures. Learn some of the basics of speaking Spanish and discover the diverse Spanishspeaking cultures in our world through songs, stories, and group activities. No experience necessary. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY • STEM/Technology (Grade 6; semester): Students will use digital tools and applications such as digital cameras and editing tools, Microsoft presentation and design tools, and web design applications to help build a strong technology foundation and improve design skills. • STEM (Grades 7 and 8; semester) – 7 th and 8 th STEM classes are CTE (career and technical education) courses. They focus on practical technical skills such as computer aided design for high tech tools (laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and 3 d printer), use of simple power tools, and circuit board coding. Students also practice important lifelong skills like teamwork, the design process, and creative thinking.

Plant Science (Grades 7 and 8; semester): Do you love being outside and working

Plant Science (Grades 7 and 8; semester): Do you love being outside and working with plants? In Plant Science, students learn about plant identification, crop production, and how plants are used for food, medicine, crafts, and landscaping. They will also learn about local plant growers, our region’s natural resources, and our general PNW environment. The learning labs will be our school garden and greenhouse spaces, where the kids will get hands-on experience!
