Mc. Kinsey 7 S Model The Mc. Kinsey 7 S Model has stood the test of time as a framework to ensure that all parts of an organization work in harmony. The most common uses of the framework are to facilitate organizational change, implement a new strategy, identify areas that may change in the future, and to facilitate the merger of organizations. The 7 elements are broken down into either “Hard” or “Soft” elements: Hard Elements – Strategy, Structure and Systems: 1. Strategy: This is the organization’s plan for building and maintaining a competitive edge over the competition. 2. Structure: The refers to the way in which the company is organized in terms of departments, teams, and reporting. 3. Systems: These are the day-to-day activities and procedures that people use to get the job done. Soft Elements – Shared Values, Style, Staff, Skill: 4. Shared Values: These are the Core Values of the organization which are usually outlined with its Mission and Vision Statements. Core Values are reflected in the corporate culture and general work ethic. 5. Style: This is the style of Leadership used within the organization. 6. Staff: This refers to the types of employee and their levels of general capability and expertise. 7. Skill: This is the actual skills and competencies of the organization’s employees.
