Tension Rises • North believed they had right to Korea. • South believed they had right to Korea. • 1950 North invades South.

US Gets Involved • America sends 500, 000 troops to region. • South Korea adds 590, 000 troops • United Nations supports America

Time Line • June 1950 – Korea split in half • September 1950 – Communist pushes Democratic to south east corner of Korea. • October 1950 – US shows up and pushes communist to China-Korea border. • January 1951 – China helps communist push US/Democratic side back to 38 th parallel

War Ends • • Stalemate at 38 th Parallel Truce talks begin in July of 1951. Korea split in half North stays communist while south stays democratic.

Results • • 54, 000 Americans Die Cost = $20 to $22 billion Communism was contained. Concerned Americans even more about communist in the United States.
