TEACHING ONLINE SAFETY • It is essential that students understand commit to not sharing personal information with anyone they meet online. • In class, I will reinforce that children should talk openly with their parents or guardian about what they see online and should always tell them if anyone asks for personal information. • Students must commit to following the family and school rules about safety on the internet and when playing online games. (Michigan Legislature)
ONLINE CLASSROOM RULES 1 I will not say rude or mean things online. 2 I will tell an adult if something makes me sad, scared, or confused. 3 I will not meet anyone from the Internet face-to-face. 4 I will ask an adult before sharing information like my name, age, address, school, and phone number. 5 I will not tell anyone information about my friends or family. (Polk County Public Schools, 2012).
ONLINE GAMES TEACHING SAFETY Students will play online games that will simultaneously teach them about online safety such as: The Internet Safety Game Iggey and Rasper's Internet Safety Game Cyber Five Internet Safety
I PLEDGE TO KEEP MY STUDENTS SAFE. • I will not post pictures of your child’s face online without permission. • The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) prevents kid-targeted websites and apps from collecting data from kids younger than 13 without parental consent. COPPA • We will have anti-virus software and parental controls in the classroom.
ONLINE SAFETY IN THE HOME • Set a time of night that kids need to get off the internet for the day. • Make sure they know to come to you if anyone asks for personal information. • Join your kids as they play online kids. • Talk to them about interacting with people online. • Give them specific sites that they are allowed to use.
