How you think for Gaokao? Is fair or not?

Definitely Unfair! Why? Regionally Exam, acceptance rate, and individual background.

Regionally Exam • Starting in the 1980 s, province has make own version of Gaokao. Shanghai was the first city to make own exam. Following with Guangdong, Beijing, Tianjin, Jiangsu, and Zheijiang. • Providing own version for local students. • Cause the hardness differently and most migrant Workers’ Children with no household registration unable to get opportunities take part in Gaokao.

Acceptance Rate • Urban and rural area has different acceptance rate from University. • Associate director of the Xiangxi Education Bureau Universities said, “ are more likely to reserve more seats for the local residents. Ex: 78. 5% of the quota in Hunan in 2010 is for residents and 21. 5% for non-residents. ”

-Provincial Capital students has the rate of 20. 52% and 24. 02% to Project 985(best)and Projects 211(good). -Students who are study at county and less development area has admission rate of 15. 15% and 9. 70% from University.

Individual Background • Students who are study in better high school easier to get to good University. They own better examination preparation materials, teachers, and opportunities of well round student development. (Ericson, 2012). • • • Minority bonus policy. 2017 Yunnan extra points policy +5 points getting award from global competition. +10 points returned overseas Chinese +15 points only kinds from farmer apply normal school +20 points kids of martyr

How to improve and reform • Adjust Minority bonus policy, limited the points from minority and stay equally for students. • Reform version of Gaokao in different area. Trying using the same level test students. • University fix admission policy that gave more chance to non-resident students.
