Convergence - What is it? Convergence is the unification of different platforms or groups

Convergence - What is it? Convergence is the unification of different platforms or groups that were originally separate. This can be institutional (Synergy) or technological. Technological Convergence deals with new media technologies, whereas Institutional Convergence deals with companies. Convergence affects the Film Industry in many different ways and across many different areas.

Convergence in the Film Industry Technological Institutional/Synergy Smart phones are affecting the film industry

This are being distributed. People are now able to purchase films is because the companies Disney and Pixar were originally online in order to watch them on their smart phones - for example separate, but have collaborated in order to gain more money from buying films from i. Games Consoles have also come around to the Film way of thinking - as most consoles such as the X-BOX and PS 3 can stream films online and have the ability to play films on them. Aardman Productions and Dream. Works is another example of this. This is because Aardman and Dream. Works are two companies that collaborated in the same way that Disney. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 As a case study I decided

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 As a case study I decided to study Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) in order to look at how film has effected this film’s distribution and how it has been marketed.

Harry Potter. . . Part 1 Budget: $150, 000 Gross: $294, 980, 434 The

Harry Potter. . . Part 1 Budget: $150, 000 Gross: $294, 980, 434 The first 45 minutes of this film was leaked online immediately before it’s release, hence creating an impact on how the film did at the Box Office. This film benefitted from the leak, as the 45 minutes proved to be good enough to make the people watching to go and see the rest at the cinema. Not all films are this lucky - X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked online two weeks before - and it suffered at the Box Office.

Marketing: HP 7 Part 2 The Harry Potter films were marketed well, which contributed to the hype and therefore success of the final release. A group of stills of the characters where slowly released – a batch at a time of different characters – building up the tension as the look of the characters for the final film was released. Two banners were later released which gave away little parts of the plot – for example the dragon as they are breaking out of Gringotts Bank. Three trailers were released in anticipation of the film – the first one mysterious and the two after it leaking a little more – helping to shape the synopsis. The last trailer was released just three weeks before the films release – building the hype evermore. The website was re-modeled to theme of the new film – which also contained exclusive clips and interviews with the cast and crew. http: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=m. Ob.
