WHAT IS FREE VERSE POETRY? v Free Verse: poetry that does not rhyme or

WHAT IS FREE VERSE POETRY? v Free Verse: poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter (pattern of syllables) v Basically, free verse poetry is the rebellious teenager of the poetry realm. Free verse poems don’t follow any rules.

EXAMPLE – WALT WHITMAN v Walt Whitman was an American poet during the 1800

BLACKOUT POETRY v Blackout poetry is a type of free verse poetry where the

BLACKOUT POETRY v Blackout poetry is a type of free verse poetry where the author starts with a passage and selects words within that passage to create a poem. The rest of the words in the passage become blacked out, so that only the selected words remain visible to the reader v Blackout poetry has been around for hundreds of years, but has recently been brought back to life and popularized by author Austin Kleon v Starting as a strategy to overcome writer’s block, Kleon would use the daily newspaper to create a new blackout poem everyday and post it online
