What is a Folk/Fairytale? �a folktale is a short story that comes from the spoken custom. Folktales often have to do with everyday life and often have sly peasants (common person) getting the better of their superiors (like a king or a snob). � How are Fairy Tales different from Folk Tales? Fairytales are a subtype (also called a subgenre) of Folktales and almost always involve some element of magic and good triumphing over evil. A good rule of thumb: if there's a fairy in the story, it's a fairy tale.

So what are some good examples of Folk/Fairytales? � Cinderella � The Three Little Pigs � Snow White and the Seven Dwarves � Aladdin � Beauty and the Beast � Little Red Riding Hood � Puss in Boots � The Emperor's New Clothes � Hansel and Gretel

What is the plot of this story? � Lets Summarize what we know: ◦ What is the setting? (time and place) ◦ What are the sequence of Events? ◦ - the introduction ◦ - rising action ◦ - climax ◦ - falling action ◦ - resolution

So What then is the Tone/mood of the story? � How do the characters feel? What kind of feeling is the writer/storyteller trying to express? � For mood you have to ask yourself “how does this make ME feel? ”

What is the major conflict in the story? � For example: ◦ Man Vs. Man ◦ Man Vs. Nature ◦ Man Vs. Society ◦ Man Vs. Himself ◦ Man Vs. Machine
