What is a Folk/Fairytale? �a folktale is a short story that comes from the spoken custom. Folktales often have to do with everyday life and often have sly peasants (common person) getting the better of their superiors (like a king or a snob). � How are Fairy Tales different from Folk Tales? Fairytales are a subtype (also called a subgenre) of Folktales and almost always involve some element of magic and good triumphing over evil. A good rule of thumb: if there's a fairy in the story, it's a fairy tale.
