Discuss the following questions with your child…

What Jobs Do We Know Of? People do lots of different kinds of jobs, this is really exciting. How many different jobs can you think of? There are lots of jobs that people do and they each involve different tasks and need different skills and interests. This is great news!

You will need the Common Jobs flashcards or draw some yourself. Gather the family around for a game…

Describe It! We are now going to think about some of these jobs in a bit more detail. We are going to play a guessing game! Choose a card with a picture of a person doing a job. Remember to keep your card hidden from everyone.

Describe It! Give your family clues about the job on your card. This might be what the person has to wear, what different things they have to do and what the person might need to be good at to do the job. Your family has to guess the job you are describing. We are all unique and have different talents and skills suited to different things. How wonderful it is that there are so many different jobs that we can do!

Working Together Gets the Job Done! Different jobs need people to do different things, they need different skills. Look carefully at the card you chose and then practise acting out what it would be like to actually do this job. Remember your family members can join in too! While you watch the role plays think about these questions… • What job is being acted out? • What does the job involve? • What do the people have to do in their job? • What skills and interests do the people doing the job need?

Working Together Gets the Job Done! Now, sit quietly for a moment and think about your answers to these questions… What are you interested in? What do you like doing? If you feel happy to, share what you would like to be with your family. What are you good at? What would you like to be when you grow up? What a lot of bright futures lie ahead!

How Can I Achieve My Ambition? Today we have thought about the different jobs people do and about what we would like to be when we grow up. Sit quietly and have in your mind what you would like to be. Think about your answers to the following questions. This is called ‘reflecting’. What do I need to be good at to do this job? What steps can I take to achieve my goal? Is there anything I need to get better at or practise? We all have skills, talents and dreams. With a positive learning. attitude our ambitions and goals can be achieved. Keep aiming high!

When I Grow Up It is good to have hopes and dreams and think about what we would like to be when we grow up. Having goals and ambitions can help us to feel happy. Draw a picture of what you would like to be when you grow up on your ‘When I Grow Up’ Activity Sheet or copy into your learning jotter. Write why you think you would be good at this.
