Meet the Team § Mrs. Kattia Hernandez ESOL Teacher Kattia. Hernandez@richlandone. org My name is Kattia Hernandez. I was born in San José, Costa Rica. I am really glad to welcome you and your child to a new school year. I graduated as an English Teacher with a major in Bilingual Education. I have taught in the elementary grades in my country and have worked with Richland One School District for 8 years. This is my second year at Caughman Road Elementary School. I love teaching languages and I believe in the goal of Richland County District One’s for English of Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) program, which is to provide equal educational opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse students other than English and who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) or Non- English Proficient (NEP). The primary focus of the instructional program is to provide an English-rich environment so that LEP and NEP students become proficient in English as soon as possible. 3

Working Together § Caughman Road Families, § In this uncertain time of preparing for online learning, Caughman Road is dedicated to the needs of your students. Administration and teachers have been preparing and planning for our online curriculum to challenge students and move them towards academic success. It is not an easy task and requires families at home and educators at school to work together. Teachers are developing platforms to reach your students with online instruction. Like any learning environment, students need to be ready to learn. We have developed a list of norms for online learning at home to ensure the success of students. The following information is intended to be helpful in establishing a routine for your students when engaged in direct online instruction with their teachers. This will maximize learning not only for your student, but for the class community of learners. We appreciate as always your effort to WORK TOGETHER for the good of our children. 5
