Review of Clearing – key stats Last statistical reporting point on Clearing was 2 nd September: • Number of applicants placed through Clearing up 3% to over 42, 000 • Number of applicants placed through Firm and Insurance, both up 1% • Adjustment down 21% to 920 • Nearly 7000 applicants were placed on the first day of Clearing

So what? • • Fewer 18 (and 19) year olds available to recruit Providers are still hungry for students with academic qualifications e. g. Highers, A levels, IB or pre-U More pressure on advisers to … • know more about a wider range of (reformed) quals • second guess offers and interpret university behaviour • stay one step ahead of learners UCAS’ products and services need to be more responsive to advisers’ needs.

You asked, we listened • We want Apply to be available earlier - Apply for applicants was available on 24 May. • We want access to Apply for advisers before applicants to get ourselves set up and ready - Apply for advisers was available on 17 May. • Applicants need more time to research their options in Clearing - Clearing vacancy list was available from 5 July. • We enabled applicants to make clearing referrals from 15: 00 on A-Level results day

Offer rate calculator • A new ‘beta’ product, launching in October 2016 • An adviser-facing tool, which could assist them in supporting applicants on a one-to-one basis. • Using historical data, the tool indicates the likelihood of an applicant receiving an offer, based on their predicted grades. • This tool will be password-protected for advisers.

Candidate Matching Service • We believe over 1100 students have been placed using the

Candidate Matching Service • We believe over 1100 students have been placed using the service. • In the South East and East, 148 students have been placed at 12 participating providers. Over 4000 responses to the 2016 applicant survey to date and some great feedback: • 93% happy to be called through the service • 85% saying the calls they got were helpful • Next steps: continued development for Clearing & Extra!
