HOW TO REGISTER ON UCAS 2020 A Student & Parent Guide

• A quick warning that UCAS do make slight changes to their web-site appearance on a yearly basis so although many of the tabs you are asked to go to will still be there, they may not always be where I have indicated in the following slides.

GO TO WWW. UCAS. COM 1. On the home page click on the Sign in tile at the top of the screen. 2. Click on the students sign in.

FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS THAT EACH SCREEN WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH. ENSURE YOU PRESS NEXT TO GO ONTO THE NEXT PAGE

Terms and conditions • Read the terms and conditions and then tick the box at the bottom of the page saying you accept the terms and conditions. Then press NEXT.

ON THE PERSONAL DETAILS PAGE, ENSURE YOU WRITE YOUR SURNAME AND YOUR FIRST NAME STARTING WITH A CAPITAL LETTER, NOT ALL IN CAPITALS

FOR EACH SCREEN, ENSURE YOU GIVE ACCURATE DETAILS AND ENSURE YOU MAKE NO TYPING ERRORS. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU PROVIDE UCAS (AND UNIVERSITIES) WITH A SENSIBLE E-MAIL ADDRESS! ONE SURVEY FOUND THAT 76% OF CV’S WITH UNPROFESSIONAL ADDRESSES ARE IGNORED. Universities are not yet rejecting applications on that basis but for your sake, and because you may have to e-mail universities Admin’ tutors directly at some stage in the process, you should choose a professional e-mail address.

AT SOME STAGE YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE UP A PASSWORD WHICH WILL BE YOUR PASSWORD EVERY TIME YOU LOG ONTO YOUR UCAS APPLICATION. MAKE A NOTE OF IT NOW (ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE FOR INSTANCE) SO YOU DON’T FORGET IT. YOU MAY ALSO ENTRUST IT WITH AN IN CASE YOU LOSE IT (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: EVERY YEAR, SEVERAL STUDENTS LOSE THEIRS AND NEED US TO HELP THEM OUT). Without it you will not be able to access your application and you will have top contact UCAS direct to sort out a new password.

NOW YOU WILL NEED TO PAY ATTENTION! Immediately after you have selected your 4 security questions and answers, your next screen will provide you with your UCAS USERNAME

YOU MUST MAKE A NOTE OF YOUR USERNAME BEFORE CLICKING ON ANYTHING ELSE! Write it down / take a picture of it on your mobile phone or somewhere safe where you will have access to your username and password every time you need to between now and the moment you are ready to send your application off to UCAS sometime next term

THE PROCESS IS STILL NOT FINISHED: AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN YOUR USERNAME CLICK LOG IN NOW.

THE NEXT SCREEN WILL ASK YOU HOW YOU ARE REGISTERING: CLICK ON…

You will then be asked to type in the school buzzword which is Holcombe 20

After confirming that you are registering through Holcombe Grammar School, select your tutor group by clicking on the drop down box

After selecting your tutor group, the next screen shows your very important UCAS ID number. YOU MUST MAKE A NOTE OF IT NOW as it will be the first thing UCAS and your prospective universities will require from you if you need to get in touch with them until you start at university.

Once you have made a note of your UCAS ID, click on verify your e-mail

On the next screen, towards the bottom you will be shown a box… Before you can copy and paste the right code you need to open another window and go to your email account where UCAS should have sent you an e-mail which includes the correct code

Open the e-mail and copy and paste the code into the box in the UCAS registration page then click verify e-mail If you have done everything correctly the next screen should show…

If you click on the link to the ‘Welcome page’, you are now in a position to start filling in your application By clicking on the relevant section on the lefthand side of the screen you can now fill in the various pages of your application.

From now on every time you will want to fill in your application you will need to go to ‘APPLY 2020 courses’ and this time click on LOG IN option. You will need to enter the username you have been given and the password you have chosen. You can then carry on filling in your application.
