Mindfulness • Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to

Mindfulness • Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really notice what you're doing. Being mindful is the opposite of rushing or multitasking. When you're mindful, you're taking your time. You're focusing in a relaxed, easy way. • The pupils also have the opportunity to explore mindfulness through breathing and introspective exercises.

Literacy Reading Modelled, Shared, Guided, and Independent Reading developed through Task Board (after Christmas

Literacy Reading Modelled, Shared, Guided, and Independent Reading developed through Task Board (after Christmas P 5 will transition to Reciprocal Reading). Within Task Board sessions, pupils will develop reading strategies, grammar and comprehension skills, become exposed to new and challenging vocabulary and complete phonic activities linked to weekly spellings. P 4 pupils will have the opportunity to change extra readers on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. P 5 pupils have the independence to choose a book from home, local library or school library. Developing Literacy at Home In P 4/5 we encourage the children to write independently as much as possible, whilst providing them with many opportunities to develop their confidence and ability in this area. In P 4/5 the children explore various form of writing. The more your child writes the more confident they will become. At home, you can help build your child's confidence by offering various writing opportunities. Data Handling Collect and present data in a variety of ways. Measures Time, Length, Area, Weight, Capacity and Volume. Both practical investigation and written recording. Number Working with numbers to 999. To include place value and number recognition. Also addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, word problems, mental arithmetic, money (up to £ 10), fractions and recognition of different currencies. Shape and Space Properties of 2 D and 3 D shapes, symmetry, position, movement and direction and using programmable devices. Learning key facts e. g. 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 times tables and number bonds. Days of the week and months of the year.

Shared Education We are delighted to have received funding to able to work with Knocknagoney Primary School in a shared education partnership within the Peace IV programme. OUR AIMS The aims of the partnership are: • To enable children to work collaboratively with one another through a range of classroom-based sessions taking place in both schools. • To get to know one another during identity days at the beginning and end of the year. • To learn new skills in coding and UICT P 4/World Around Us (P 5). • To have fun and enjoy learning together.

Homework in P 4 • Children in Year 4 need help to become organised.

Homework in P 4 • Children in Year 4 need help to become organised. You can help them by checking they have all books needed and notes which need returned. • Children will get homework weekly on a Monday and is due back on Thursday. Grow In Love will go home on Thursday to be return on Friday • If for any reason you feel your child cannot complete homework please write in their homework book. • From time to time, the children will have to complete project work and this will replace their Maths and English work for the time it takes to complete the project – except for weekly spelling and Mental Maths. • Continue to encourage your child to read books they enjoy and record all books in the yellow reading record book.

Homework in P 5 • Children will get homework weekly on a Monday and this is due back the following Friday. This will consist of daily tasks- two literacy activities, two maths activities, spelling sentences, dictionary work and mental maths. • From time to time, the children will have to complete project work and this will replace their Maths and English work for the time it takes to complete the project – except for weekly spelling and Mental Maths.

Parental Permission: If a different adult is collecting your child from school please ensure your child and the school are aware of this.
