Kindergarten Readiness ● Be able to state first and last name when asked ● Be able to write first name with first letter upper case and remaining letters lower case ● Use appropriate three-finger grasp when using writing instruments (pencils, crayons and scissors) ● Know all the letters in their first name ● Make letter/sound matches ● Identify upper and lower case letters ● Knows concepts of print (front and back of book, which page comes first, track words left to right) ● Be able to rhyme words ● Retells simple stories in sequence ● When given a word (“man”) and a new beginning sound (/f/), creates the familiar word (“fan”) (phonemic awareness)

Kindergarten Readiness ● Know basic colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, black, white, brown, pink) ● Identify digits 1 -10 in random order ● Identify basic geometric shapes (triangle, circle, square, rectangle, oval, star, rhombus (diamond) and heart) ● Count to at least thirty and tell what number comes before or after a given number to 20 ● Use finger to accurately touch count items to ten

Important Dates Kindergarten Start Date – Tuesday, September 1 st , 2020 ○ Students will attend a full day (8: 20 -3: 20) ■ Parents should stay for the start of the day (8: 20 -9: 45) ● First, in the classroom ● Second, for an orientation meeting ○ Transitional Kindergarten students will have short day (8: 20 -10: 00) ■ At least one parent/guardian should be here the entire time ■ Students will have first full day on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Bus Transportation August Frenchtown School District Newsletter will have bus routes and times First month – kindergarten will wear name tags to help them get to the correct bus, teachers will walk to the bus loop, older students help Parent, guardian, designated adult or a 3 rd grade or older sibling must be at the bus stop ○ supervise kindergarten students in the morning ○ pick up kindergarten students in the afternoon The bus is moving students safely between home and school. Unsafe behavior may result in bus referrals and/or student being assigned to a car seat or removal.

Just an FYI Label EVERYTHING (ex. coats, mittens, lunch box) ○ Lost and Found is on the second floor above the office Spare change of clothing is recommended – labeled in a Ziploc bag New experiences could strongly impact your child: ○ May be tired when they start school (firm bedtime routine) ○ May have some anxiety starting school ■ Mrs. America is available for guidance as necessary ■ “Practice school” by spending time in the summer on the campus and playing on the playground Nurse is available throughout the day
