Vocabulary � Why do we do it? � Easiest way to improve one’s writing and communication – anyone can do it � Lexicon Rice and Webster’s Vocabulary Builder � You should receive a vocabulary handout � Listen and follow along as we review each word � In your DOL document, choose 5 vocabulary words and write a sentence with each one � Free

Critical Discussion � Should student input be considered in major decisions regarding public education, such as: ◦ ◦ � If Curriculum (what we learn – and what we do not)? Dress codes? Codes of conduct? Political decisions like school board elections, boundaries, funding, etc? you were in charge of the entire curriculum for 3 rd quarter, what would we learn? Why?

Directions for Discussion � After we number off, get together with your group members and do the following: ◦ Choose a scribe (ok to type) �Scribe should write down names of members and take detailed notes of group responses ◦ Group must turn in notes and proposals for the following: �What – if any – major decisions should include student input (justify all arguments) �Proposed curriculum for 3 rd quarter �Details, details!

Homework for Wednesday � With index cards or pieces of paper, make a flashcard for each of the vocabulary words � Your flash cards must have ◦ Word on one side ◦ Part of speech, short definition, and sample sentence on the other side � Bring your flashcards on Wednesday for 20 points – no late work for this one
