Hello Year 4, We hope you have enjoyed this terms home learning. We have reached the final week of planning this year before you all become Year 5 children – What a crazy year it has been. As you know, last week we finished our story – The Boy at the Back of the Class. We hope you were happy with the ending and enjoyed the story. This week, You will find on the class section of the website we have uploaded the sequel to this story. This is called 'The Day We Met the Queen'. The story has been split in to 2 PDF documents so please look for both of these to read the full story. We finally want to thank you for being lovely classes. We have truly enjoyed teaching each and every one of you and wish that we could have had the full year together. Have an amazing summer. Stay safe and do all you can to get yourselves ready for September. Mrs Mitcheson, Mrs Blake & Mr Barringer

Task 1: To read 'The Day We Met the Queen' by Onjali Q Rauf

Task 1: To read 'The Day We Met the Queen' by Onjali Q Rauf This is a short story that directly follows the ending of our last story. As I am sure you can guess, it is about the children's visit to the Queen. Please read this with an adult at home and discuss with them anything that you don't understand. As you read, discuss what you are enjoying. Can you find any references to the original book in this new one? Are all of the characters the same? Are there any new characters? Once you have read the story, write one sentence per chapter to summarise what you have read. From reading your 9 sentences, we should be able to work out exactly what happens in the story from start to finish.

Task 2: To plan a story in the style of an author Your task

Task 2: To plan a story in the style of an author Your task for the rest of this week is to plan and write your very own 'The Day we. . . ' story in the style of the author. Today's task is to plan your story. Imagine you are writing the third installment of the series. What adventure do you think the children could go on next? Fill in the story mountain on the next slide to list the ideas for your story. This will support your writing for the rest of the week.

Task 2: To write a story in the style of an author For the rest of the week, take your time to write your story. You may want to answer the below questions before you start. What style are the books written in? Who's point of view are the books written from? Is it first person or third person? Who are the important characters in both stories? Are the books always serious or is there some humour? What are the relationships between the characters like? Once you have answered the above, use your plan to write your mini story in the style of the author. Remember to give it a title. 'The Day We. . . '. Please send your story to the Year 4 email address and finally, have an amazing summer holiday.
