WEEK 1 Welcome Back! • Lets reflect on term. . . is it what you expected? • Your feedback…… Positive comments Areas of concern 3 days per week Why are we doing clinical skills? – not relevant! Friendly , knowledgeable, supportive lecturers Lectures with MPharm – referring to lower level work Clinical content, skills and seminars How does content relate to exam? Well structured, seminars follow lectures Lectures with MPharm – referring to lower level work Content is relevant and helps prepare us for practice/pre-reg Future students need to study throughout and keep on top of taught materials • NEGATIVE: Future students should not come to Sunderland University for Ospap purely because is too disorganised, stressful with irrelevant course materials for MPHM 14 OSPAP MPHM 14 Module Introduction .

Critically compare and, in the context of the evidence-base, examine and critique the design and properties of pharmaceutical preparations and the factors affecting their choice and manufacture. Assess and critically evaluate data and draw accurate, evidence-based therapeutic conclusions to effectively manage patient scenarios, involving multiple pathologies and complex therapeutic regimens to apply an integrated knowledge of clinical therapeutics. SKILLS Evaluate the management of medication regimens with reference to first principles and in the context of evidence-based knowledge of the supporting science and therapeutics. Search for, and critically appraise, relevant primary literature. Work effectively and reliably as a team member. OSPAP MPHM 14 Module Introduction

Poster Guide • Clinical topic – Novel drug therapy • Each group of 4 students has been given a condition and a therapy for its treatment. • You should prepare your poster as if you are presenting the information to a doctor/ consultant who is considering using the drug for the treatment of their patients. • You should briefly introduce the condition and explain where therapy is advised to be used in its treatment. • You need to present any guidance there is (if any) and the evidence for the treatments use. • Remember to use primary evidence in your poster and do not just present information from the guidelines. 8

Poster Guide • Presentation - Thursday 9 -12 pm on the 8 th of

Poster Guide • Presentation - Thursday 9 -12 pm on the 8 th of February (week 28) • Each group of students need to work together to produce a printed minimum A 1 sized poster on their given topic. • Posters will be displayed and each group will present their poster to the rest of the class. The time limit for oral presentation is 15 minutes. • Posters can be produced on a slide using Microsoft Power. Point but must be printed for presentation. • A PDF copy of the poster must be submitted to the turn it in link on Canvas. The deadline being 11. 59 pm on Wednesday the 7 th of February (week 28). • Choose a font size large enough to be clearly read. Using a small font size and cramming lots of information on your poster will result in a reduction in marks. • Printing is available from the University print room. 9

Plagiarism scores • Penalties will be imposed for those found to be plagiarising, this is to ensure consistency and fairness of marking across the module. The following regulations are in place for OSPAP students: • Work that returns a similarity score of 20% or less (inclusive of a single similarity score <5%) will be marked as normal. However work at the latter end of this boundary will be checked for the number of similar sources and the context of the similarity. • Work that returns a similarity score of >20% (or <20% with a single similarity score of >5%) will be subject to a marking adjustment. 1. 5 marks will be deducted for each percentage point of similarity exceeding 20%. For example, if you submit a piece of work that is graded as 50% but 30% of the work submitted is deemed unoriginal, 1. 5 marks will be deducted for every percentage point of similarity over the accepted threshold. Therefore in this example the individual would receive a reduction of 15% (30 -20= 10, 10 x 1. 5 = 15) on the grade obtained. This would result in a final mark of 35% and the student will therefore fail this piece of work and be required to resubmit. 10
