History The Tower of London was built in 1066 by William the conqueror. it was used as a prison from 1100 to 1952 but it was used as an armory, a treasury, a menagerie too. That why it is very important for England. Over time, it has earned a reputation as a place of torture and death. Indeed, 7 people were executed in the tower before the 20 th century. Today, the Tower of London is protected as a World Heritage of the Unesco and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in England.
