The Power of the Cross: power of sin – Doing what you don’t want to do (Rom 7) • The • Today, as we come into Easter, let’s look at the power of the cross to set us free from the power and penalty of sin.

The Power of the Cross: • Colossians 2: 9 -15, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also crucified with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your sinful nature was put off

The Power of the Cross: • Colossians 2: 9 -15, “when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,

The Power of the Cross: • Colossians 2: 9 -15, “God made you alive with Christ. He forgave all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

The Power of the Cross: • Colossians 2: 9 -15, “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. ” • Here is Paul’s point: There is freedom and fullness in Christ through the cross. Let’s make some observations about this great weighty truth.

The Power of the Cross: • #1 - There is fullness in Christ - You can’t find fullness anywhere else. Only in Christ. “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness” (Col 2: 9). The problem of sin is a problem with God. And only God can resolve it. Christ is fully God; He is the head of all; fullness in Him (you can't give what you don't have; broken cisterns)

The Power of the Cross: • There is freedom & fullness in Christ through the cross. #2 – Christ, through the cross, conquered our sinful nature. “In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your sinful nature was put off when you were circumcised by Christ. ” (circumcision & covenant; weed killer – planted seed of life)

The Power of the Cross: • There is freedom & fullness in Christ through the cross. #3 - Christ, through the cross, gave us new life. “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ” (Col 2: 13). (united in his death & resurrection; supernatural life poured out in us; like a seed, changed your nature)

The Power of the Cross: • There is freedom & fullness in Christ through the cross. #4 - Christ, through the cross, forgave our sins & canceled our debt. “He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. ” (Judgement Day; ironing favorite shirt; soul stains)

The Power of the Cross: • There is freedom & fullness in Christ through the cross. #5 - Christ, through the cross, triumphed over our adversary. “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. ” (disarmed attacker; Pastor Mc. Neel accuser caught telling lies; unable to shoot)
