The Deity of Christ The Godhead—Part 3
Many Question the Deity of Christ l They refer to the follow Scriptures: u John 14: 28: “My Father is greater than I. ” u Col. 1: 15: “…the firstborn over all creation. ” u Luke 22: 42: “Not My will, but Yours, be done. ” u Heb. 5: 7: “…offered up prayers…to Him who was able to save Him from death…” u Heb. 5: 8: “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience…”
Many Question the Deity of Christ l None of these passages deny the Deity of Christ, they only help us understand His role in the Godhead. l It is because of misunderstanding of these Scriptures that some deny Christ’s Deity (2 Pet. 3: 16). l We will see where His Deity is affirmed in Scripture, and examine these texts that we may know the truth.
Colossians 2: 9 l “In Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily. ” u From where we get the term “Godhead”— having the nature of God. u This nature of being God is attributed to Jesus. u More on this later.
O. T. Prophesied of the Deity of Christ l Isa. 9: 6: “Unto us a Son is given…and His name shall be called…Mighty God…” l Ps. 110: 1: “The Lord said to My Lord” (Matt. 22: 41 -45). l Ps. 102: 24 -27: “O my God…of old You laid the foundations of the earths” (Heb. 1: 8, 10 -12). l Mic. 5: 2: “Whose goings forth are from old, from everlasting” (Matt. 2: 6).
Jesus Affirms His Deity l John 8: 57 -59: “Before Abraham was, I AM” (Ex. 3: 14) l John 5: 16 -18: “…God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. ” l Rev. 1: 8: “I am…the Almighty”
N. T. Affirms the Deity of Christ Colossians 2: 9 l “In Him dwells”: dwell, reside, house permanently. l “the fullness”: That of which a thing is full, completion. l “of the Godhead”: The state or quality of being God. l “bodily”: in His body.

N. T. Affirms the Deity of Christ The Godhead dwells in Him bodily. l John 1: 1 -3: “…the word was God. ” Not: “a god” (NWT), but “Theos, een ho Logos, ” lit. “God, was the Word” u “a god” changes original-it is an addition. u l John 1: 14: “and the Word became flesh. ” l Gal. 4: 23: “born according to the flesh. ” l Phil. 2: 7 -8: “taking the form of a bondservant…being in appearance as a man. ”
N. T. Affirms the Deity of Christ John 1: 1 Father Became flesh, Dwelt among us John 1: 14 Word Heaven Holy Spirit Took the form of a bondservant Phil. 2: 6 -7 Col. 2: 9 In this bodily form, He retained the fullness of the Godhead!
N. T. Affirms the Deity of Christ l Matt. 1: 23: “God with us. ” l John 20: 28: “My Lord and my God. ” l Titus 2: 13: “…our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. ” l Heb. 1: 8: “Your throne, O God, is forever…”
