Read the text and notice the bold words �Ali lives in Rajshahi. He is a shopkeeper. He sells cigarettes and somehow manages to support his family. But he hates smoking because it is dangerous to health.

Why do we need to identify noun? �To use article �To use preposition �To use adjective �To know subject �To know object �To know subject-verb agreement �To know clause �To know phrase �To fill in the blank with /without cluse
�We should remember that we are not studying the classification or cataegories of noun. we are working on how to identify noon
What is noun? �Noun is a naming word. �We may divide noun in different classes as: Name of ………. 1. Persons (Sumi, Ruma, shahrukh) 2. places( Dhaka, Pabna, Rajshahi) 3. Things( computer, book, pencil) 4. Members of a class(doctor, engineer, cat) 5. A group of persons/animals/things (
�Furniture, flock, committee, cabinet) � 6. Actions or activities (walking, teaching, watching) � 7. Qualities or emotions or conditions of people or thing (love, kindness, peace, sickness )
�There is another way to identify noun as by adding suffix with verb or adje � 1. Noun indicating persons �--er as in driver , player , writer. �--or– as in erditor, actor, visitor. �--ant– as in assistant, servent, attendant. �--ist– as in scientist, chemist, typist.
� 2. Nouns derived from verb and indicating qualities , ideas , conditions �--age– (leakage, drainage, coverage) �--al– (arrival, refusal, approval ) �--ance—(attendance, appearance, performance) �--y/ery– (discovery , recovery, delivery) �--ment—(agreement, judgement, advancement) �--Sion—(decision, division, expansion)
