Synonyms A synonym is a word similar in meaning to another word. Finding a synonym for an ordinary word like said can make your writing more precise and interesting eg. murmured captures saying something quietly not just saying. Writers also often use a list of synonyms to make a sentence more effective. Using a list of several words with the same meaning reinforces the idea. For example: After waiting for the bus for over an hour, Mandi felt annoyed, frustrated and infuriated! TASK 1: Why do you think the writer here chose the word infuriated at the end?
