Work �Is an integral part of maintaining physical, social and mental health. �Can have positive or negative effects on health �E. g. Stress can lead to ill health which leads to time off work. �Some jobs have higher mortality rates than others e. g. Builders and farmers. Why?

Unemployment �Can be linked with health concerns. �Lung cancer, CVD and suicide rates are higher among the unemployed. Why? �Debt can be a factor that can also affect psychological and financial issues. �Relationship: ill health can cause unemployment OR unemployment can cause ill health.
Social exclusion �Examples include: �Poor physical and mental health �Disability �Family breakdown �Homelessness �Lack of education or skills �Low income �Relative poverty
Stress �On the human body outline, draw/write the effects of stress on the body, �Stress: “Stressful circumstances, making people feel worried, anxious and unable to cope, are damaging to health and may lead to premature death” (WHO, 2003)
Food security �The quality, availability, and affordability of the food supply all affect what people eat. �Food shortages- ‘food insecurity’ �food plenty- over consumption. �Q. What can arise from someone eating too little in their diet and someone eating too much? Draw a table and compare.
Housing Over crowding Sleeping conditions Security Housing Design and safety Pollutants Hygiene and water supply Cooking facilities and a nutritional diet Lead to depression, strain on housing facilities, increases infections diseases being spread Sleeping conditions should promote restful sleep. Over crowding and noise can impact this. An insecure house may promote unnecessary stress and worry for its occupants
Transport �Access to transport can impact on many aspects of a person’s life including employment, access to health care and access to other resources such as supermarkets and shops. �How would people in rural and remote areas be vulnerable to transport issues? E. g. Ambulances �Transport can have positive effects on people’s health, if they choose to be physically active and ride, walk, run to work, and they can have environmental benefits by using public transport.
