SKILL RELATED COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS n AGILITY n BALANCE n COORDINATION n POWER n REACTION TIME n SPEED
SKILL RELATED FITNESS n n Fitness components important for success in skillful activities and athletic events. Encompasses agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time and speed.
AGILITY The ability to change and control the direction and position of the body while maintaining constant, rapid motion. n Key activities such as: basketball, soccer, racquet sports, skiing, ect: any sport/activity you need to change direction quickly. n
BALANCE The ability to control or stabilize the body when a person is standing still or moving. n Key in activities such as: gymnastics, diving, skating, skiing, football, wrestling etc. . n
COORDINATION n n The ability to use the senses together with body parts during movement. Key in wide variety of activities: golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, karate – anywhere hand – eye- foot movements must be integrated.
SPEED The ability to move your body or parts swiftly. n Many if not most sport and activities required bursts of speed at some point. n
POWER The ability to move the body parts swiftly while applying the maximum force to muscles. n By combining power, speed and force (strength) – allows a person to produce explosive movements: jumping, shot put, spiking/throwing/hitting a ball. n
REACTION TIME The ability to react or respond quickly to what you hear/see/feel. n Important for starts of races, racquet sports, and self defense. n
