Q. 4: 3 out of the 6 categories of influence on sports participation? u People- Family, Peers, Role Models. u Image- Fashion and Media. u Cultural Factors- Disability, Age, Gender, Race. Resources- Availability, location, Access and Time. u Health and Wellbeing- Illness and u Health Problems. u Socio-economic- Cost and Status.

Skill-related fitness… u u This allows people to become good at physical activity. Different sports require different combinations of Skill-related fitness.
REMEMBER…
Agility… u u The ability to change the position of the whole body quickly and control the movement of the whole body… Example? Sidestep in Rugby Floor work in gymnastics.
Exam Question: Explain the term agility (1) u Give a specific example of when a games play would use agility in a match (1) u Explain why agility is not important to a 100 m sprinter (1) u
Balance… u u Static Balance. Keeping the body stationary i. e. the tree position in yoga. Archery requires this too! u Dynamic Balance. A Controlled, stable position i. e. a basketball player. Gymnastics… This requires both dynamic and static balance i. e. a handstand into a forward walk-over.
Practical Example… u Think of one of your chosen practical sports… • Explain how you use static balance in your sport (1) • Explain how dynamic balance is also used (1)
Co-ordination… u There are many different types of coordination… can you name them? • • Stuart Broad: England Cricketer. Hand-eye. Foot-eye. Head-eye. Thigh-eye/Chest eye. Fact: many people are co -ordinated differently on different sides of their body. u u Bats left handed. Bowls right handed.
Power… u u u Speed x Strength= Power. Sportsmen and women use power to propel themselves or an object forward or upwards. Football: Long throw Weightlifting: Clean and Jerk. Athletics: Long or High Jump.
Reaction Time… “The B of the Bang” Definition: The time taken between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of movement… u Basically, how quickly you can react to something. u Anticipation of a stimulus can also help reaction timing. u Slaps…
Exam Question… u u Give an example of how fast reaction times are beneficial in your sport (2) Answers?
Speed… u Leg speed- Usain Bolt: 100 m u u Hand Speed- David Haye: Boxing Speed of thought. Rafael Nadal: Tennis Definition: the differing rates at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance.
