How are they administered? • 7 -year-olds are tested on reading, writing and maths. • Key Stage 1 teachers mark the tests themselves, with their marking checked by the authority’s advisors or inspectors. This is to make sure that all results are absolutely fair. • None of the tests have a set time limit and children can take as long as they need within reason. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Reading • Children are given a small booklet with a range of texts. • The children will answer questions about the text in an answer booklet. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Maths • Children work through booklets of maths questions covering all of the work they have been doing in their numeracy lessons including: number, shape etc. There is a reasoning and arithmetic test. • Children are allowed to use some equipment for counting and have a ruler. • The written answers are not judged on spelling or handwriting. The questions can be read aloud by the teacher. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Writing • Writing is teacher assessed through internal moderation. • The local authority moderation team will inspect the teacher’s judgement to ensure the results are fair and reflect the child’s true ability. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Administering • Tests are not timed. • Children will not be actively aware they are doing tests. • They will be told they are completing ‘prove its’ and challenges. • Children can have rest breaks. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Year 2 Expectations What can you do to help? • • Please see hand out of expectations. Keep children calm during the weeks. Attend school every day. Read everyday at home Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire

Results No more levels Children either work below, at or above national expectations. Results are not published and overall assessment of children remains teacher assessment in Y 2. Parents / carers are notified of results in their child’s report. Thrive Enjoy Achieve Aspire
