Map of Rwanda ● One of the smallest countries in Central Africa, with only 7 million people. ● Two ethnic groups made up Rwanda, the Hutus and the Tutsis. ● Hutus account for 90%of the population.

Background of Rwanda Genocide: Nicole ● Between two ethnic groups, Hutu and Tutsi. ● Hutu and Tutsi fought for who had more power in Rwanda. ● President Habyalimana (Rwanda) and President Cyprien Ntaryamira(Burundi) tried to settle tension between two groups but failed when they both got assassinated. ● After death of two presidents, Hutu’s began killing thousands of Tutsis. ● Tension caused other countries to get involved.

Choices made that allowed collective violence: Nicole and Oscar ● The Rwandan state radio (controlled by Hutu) encouraged the killings of Tutsis and broadcasted the locations that they were hiding in. ● Foreign countries choose to evacuate their troops instead of using them to help out and slow down the violence.
