SUMMARY Hypothesis Medium My hypothesis is ‘what is it about the narrative that contributes to creating an interesting music video? ’. I aim to continuously refer back to this hypothesis throughout my research. The medium I have chose to use is video. Genre/Format Target audience I intend to take inspiration from an indie artist Vance Joy and the artistic style of his music videos. My target audience is 18 -30 because of many factors such as the genre of the song and ultimately that both my primary and secondary research supports my target audience. Synopsis The viewer should expect to see a bit of mirroring to the lyrics in the music video but overall a love story turned break up.

TAGLINE AND KEY QUESTION My main hypothesis is ‘what is it about the narrative that contributes to creating an interesting music video? ’. This question has been continuously linked back to my research to understand the link between narrative and interest within a music video. I would like to be able to use the findings from my research to make the audience to feel the emotion within the music video and for the audience to be able to relate to the happenings of the music video. The main clash within the music video will be between the past and present. For example I would like the music video to be set in the past but there's that reminder at the start and end of the music video that the main scenes of the music video is a flashback. Another question that I ultimately wanted to answer is ‘how can I create a successful music video. ’ Key question: The issues I would like the viewer to think about is the issue of the breakup. I would like the viewer to think about why they might have broken up or if they simply just drifted apart. The key question I would like the viewers to think after watching the music video is ‘what happened to the couple? ’

TARGET AUDIENCE The finished project is ultimately targeted at people who like to listen to music and more specifically people who are interested in the indie folk genre. Narrowing that down, the target audience is the age range 18 -30. Additionally I found that releasing the finished product to You. Tube would be best as that is where the majority of people watch music videos. (miahhj). I believe my target audience would be interested in the music video because I intend to incorporate elements that I have seen from another indie folk song that I researched. To find out more about my target audience I created a survey to collect more data. (Example shown to the right).

Synopsis SYNOPSIS AND TREATMENT The project is about creating a music video to a chosen song. Within this music video the audience should expect to mainly see a love story. The love story is the main focus with the main scenes of the video focusing around this couple that had this great day out on the beach but it is clear from the way the boy looks at an old photo that they aren’t together anymore. Treatment • The key question: ‘what is it about the narrative that contributes to creating an interesting music video? ’. • In the music video there will be two main characters, a boy and a girl. Within the video we will follow them from being still in love to broken up. • The filming will take place at a local beach in Folkestone. • I will put all the footage together by using Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6. As I have been using this software for the past 2 years of college it would be the most sensible to use as I have developed my skills and knowledge through the software. It is also easily accessible at Canterbury College.

CAST AND FILMING LOCATION • There are two main characters. The girl and the boy who are seen to be a couple in the video, they both will be viewed as teenagers. Both of them are equally important within the music video because its up to the two cast members to bounce off each other, to make the audience believe that they are in fact together and they had this amazing day together that ended • The location is a local beach in Folkestone. This is because its local not only to the crew but additionally to the cast. • I wanted the main location to be a beach because within my research I discovered a lot of slower songs have mainly one location and that tended to be the beach or woods etc. This was also the case when researching Vance Joy’s Riptide. • From my research on cinematography (miahhj) within music videos I believe three main shots to use would be a medium close up, Establishing shot and a long shot. These were three that were used throughout various different song genres and furthermore they communicated the most to the audience in the way it was used.

HOW WILL IT BE PUT TOGETHER? • My influence is Vance Joy’s Riptide because

HOW WILL IT BE PUT TOGETHER? • My influence is Vance Joy’s Riptide because having used that video as a case study (miahhj) there are many things I admire about the video such as how the video although has an abstract concept, still relates to the lyrics of the song. • I would want my music video to differ from that in the sense that its less abstract and has a more serious narrative so the audience feel the effects of the breakup and can relate to the emotions of the music video.
