Ingredients 3 doughnuts = 60 g flour 2 doughnuts = 40 g flour 1 doughnut = 20 g flour Number of doughnuts Output Ingredients ∝ Output In recipes, the ingredients are in direct proportion with the quantity produced. More doughnuts need more ingredients. More ingredients means more doughnuts.

6 biscuits need 90 g of flour. How much flour do 8 biscuits need? What method could we use to solve this problem? Find how much flour 1 biscuit needs & multiply. 90 g of flour ÷ 6 = 15 g × 8 biscuits = 120 g of flour Find how much flour 2 biscuits need & multiply. 90 g of flour ÷ 3 = 30 30 g × 4 = 120 g of flour It is often easier to find a common factor of the recipe & the required output.
