The first few days and weeks n n n Settling in is very important, therefore be prepared to stay with the child for the first hour of the first session. You may or may not need to stay for the whole period. You will be advised by the teacher when you should leave. In their first and second weeks children will arrive at 9. 15 am and only stay until 11. 30 am. In their third and fourth weeks they stay until 12. 30 pm, to include the dinner routine. In their fifth week they stay right through until 1. 30 pm. Please accompany your child right into the building and ensure the staff know they have arrived.

Housekeeping n n School Uniform – The only item we would ask parents to purchase is the Grey Sweatshirt with school name. You can get red polo shirts to wear underneath. Trainers should have velcro fastenings. Property - All articles brought to school, including clothing, should be clearly marked with the child’s name. No responsibility can be accepted for any loss or damage to pupil’s property. n n Absence – Pupils should not leave school before the normal time unless with the permission of the principal, which should only be requested in special circumstances. The reasons for absence should be clearly stated in a note to the teacher when the child returns to school. Holidays – Holiday information is usually contained in the newsletters sent to parents at the start of each new term.

Other Matters n n n School Meals – As in other nursery schools, children with full time places are expected to take school meals. We have arranged ‘main course only’ meals at a cost of £ 2. 50 per day, or £ 12. 50 per week. Snacks – We also provide a mid-morning snack for the children at a cost of £ 2. 50 per week. Both monies are payable on Mondays. Total £ 15 (monies separate if possible please!) School Discipline – A copy of the school discipline policy is available to all parents and we expect their support in its implementation. Could we ask that each parent sends in a box of tissues at the start of the term.

Pastoral Care n The school will endeavour to provide a comfortable and safe environment for learning. The pastoral needs of the children will be looked after, primarily, by the nursery teacher. She would be grateful for any information about any difficult home circumstances which may have a bearing on a child’s behaviour or demeanour. n Home / school links – We hope to form with you, a partnership in which communications can be established and maintained, in both directions, for the benefit of the children.

n n n Emergencies / sickness It is most important that parents supply the names, addresses and telephone numbers of at least three persons who can be contacted at any time during the day, in case of emergency. These people should have access to transport. If a child has been sick within the previous 24 hours please think carefully about sending your child to school. This is not only for the benefit of the child but also other children in case of infection. (If in doubt please see incubation and exclusion sickness sheet in the hall. ) When a child is sick or injured we will attempt, in the first place, to get the parent to come to the school. If this is not possible the child will be brought to the local clinic or hospital, where suitable transport is available. It is not the policy of this school for teachers to transport children in their cars because of legal reasons. In all cases the policy is to act in the best interests of the child.

And finally…… n We hope your child enjoys their time at the Nursery Unit and we look forward to them progressing into the Primary school next year. n Should you have any questions about anything you are unclear about please contact either Miss Thompson or Mr. Wright. Thank you for your time and interest. n

A Reflection for Parents There are little eyes upon you, And they are watching

A Reflection for Parents There are little eyes upon you, And they are watching night and day; There are little ears that quickly take In every word you say; There are little hands all eager to do Everything you do, And a little child who’s dreaming of The day he’ll be like you. There’s a wide eyed little child who Believes you’re always right, And his ears are always open and he Watches day and night; You are setting an example Everyday in all you do For the little child who’s waiting To grow up to be like you.
