Be in seat BEFORE tardy bell rings. 2. Do not distract others from learning. 3. Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. 4. Use restroom during breaks. 5. Be KIND to classmates. 6. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. 7. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. 8. All WHMS rules and policies shall be observed within the classroom. Course Welcome to 6 grade ELAR! Our focus Description th this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the ELAR classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career in your future. I’m excited for an amazing year! What do I get if I follow class rules? Your appropriate behavior in class assures everyone an environment conducive to learning. Some possible rewards for continuous appropriate behavior are: intrinsic value (satisfaction of learning), improved skills, verbal praise, positive note to parents, tangible trinkets, and special class activities / privileges. What are the consequences if I don’t follow class rules? 1. Warning: the teacher provides a verbal correction 2. Moved seat: student will move to an isolated area to break from activity and work in solitude 3. Phone call home: teacher or student will call parent to discuss recurring behavior 4. Parent-teacher-student conference: formal meeting to devise plan of action 5. Every student has access to Parent Portal through the JISD website. Students and parents have 24 hour access to grades, attendance, library books and discipline. https: //exapps. judsonisd. org/parentcenter/ Tutoring Hours: Tuesday 7: 30 am- 8: 00 am Wednesday 3: 30 pm- 4: 00 pm Helpful Items to Have Headphones Personal pencil sharpener Homework Expectations: Homework will be given out every Monday and is to be turned in on Thursdays. It is very important that students keep track of their assignments and turn them in on time. About Mrs. Vance Grade Daily. Breakdown Work / Quizzes = 50% I am a native of the San Antonio area, I grew up about 30 miles north in Boerne, TX and graduated in 2002 from Boerne High School. I attended The University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated (2012) with my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in English Language Arts and Reading as well as Social Studies. **Grading percentages are per district policy. I began teaching 6 th grade Reading at Woodlake Hills Middle School seven years ago and have remained here ever since. I love the relationships I build with my students and enjoy seeing them succeed in education as well as in life. It is important for me to build a mutual respect between myself, my students and their parents.
