Does the magazine industry have a future? In recent years the magazine industry has faced the threat of an influx of growing social media. Social Media apps like Instagram and Snapchat to the increasing accessibility of smart phones has lead to the diminishing position of the Magazine industry. This does not provoke the conclusion that the industry is necessarily dying, however, as with any industry presented with competition, it will change to suit the new landscape. Some changes have already taken place, with many magazines adapting to promote the positives of a physical magazine, such as using celebrity endorsements, or selling print magazines with posters or limited products not available online. Ultimately Social Media’s many flaws like unreliability and the drawbacks of battery life are where magazines prevail – which will draw many into the purchase of more magazines.
