Huntsville City Schools College Academy at Jemison High School • Students complete an accelerated program during high school that allows them to earn two years of college credits while completing their high school diploma. • Students apply for the College Academy during the spring semester of the seventh grade. Applications are being accepted from seventh graders now. • The first cohort will begin in August, 2016. 2
Huntsville City Schools College Academy at Jemison High School • College Academy students take high school courses from Jemison College Academy staff and college courses from college professors. • College Academy students take one to two courses on the college campus during grades eleven and twelve. • A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Huntsville City Schools and the University of Alabama in Huntsville is being presented tonight. • Tammy Summerville has collaborated with a team of District leaders, Jemison staff and UAH leaders and staff to develop the program and course sequence. 3

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Huntsville City Schools and The University of Alabama in Huntsville • Students will have the opportunity to earn approximately 60 or more college credits. • A new four year College Academy cohort will begin each year, beginning in 2016 of approximately 30 -35 students. • Students are required to maintain a 3. 2 weighted grade point average. 8
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Huntsville City Schools and The University of Alabama in Huntsville • Selection process is based on student application package, standardized test scores, grade point average, evidence of demonstrated maturity, recommendations from school personnel, development of a diverse cohort of students based on HCS enrollment goals. Priority will be given to Mc. Nair students for approximately one quarter of available seats. • Jemison College Academy staff and UAH professors will develop and implement supports for students. • There is no cost for the student or parents. Qualified students gain direct admission to UAH as a junior academically. These students are considered freshmen for scholarships and financial aid. • This MOU provides unprecedented academic benefits to students and 9 impressive financial benefits to parents.
