CARES OF THE VICE 1) Always keep the vice the clean. 2) The thread or screw inisde the vice should be oiled regularly. 3)Do not use the vice as an anvil for hammering. 4) The Clamp : The clamps are used for holding and drawing wood tightly together when assembling or gluing work. Example of clamps are G- clamp, F – clamp, and sash clamp CUTTING AND PAIRING TOOLS. Saws and planes are used for cutting and smoothing wood in the workshop. Saws are used for cutting wood. The two types of saw are bench and curve cutting. CURVE CUTTING SAW INCLUDES: Coping saw ; This is used for cutting curve marked lines on wood. Fret saw ; This used for cutting curve wood of 8 mm thickness or less of plywood. Bow saw , This is used for cutting wood along marked line of 50 mm. Compass saw is used for cutting large interior curves. Keyhole saw ; This is used for internal curves where bow saw could not reach / work. Rip saw ; This is used for cutting along grain of wood. Tenon saw is used for cutting shoulders to tenon and recesses in board. Dovetail saw is same as tenon for cutting joint and light sawing’ Panel saw is used for sawing thin timber across the wood. Cross cut saw is used for cutting across the grain.

TYPES OF PLANES Another type of cutting tool is the bench plane. The bench

TYPES OF PLANES Another type of cutting tool is the bench plane. The bench planes are used to obtain a good smooth surface and to get the correct size required. EXAMPLES OF WHICH INCLUDES, jack plane, Try plane, Smoothing plane , Block plane and Spoke shave. Jack plane is used to smoothen marks from timber. It could be used to dress the surface and edges. Try plane is used to produce flat surface and perfect the edges. Smoothing plane: It is used for clearing the surface and edges of timber. Block plane : This is used for planning small work that is not easily accessible. Spokeshave : This is an example of a curve cutting plane used to produce smooth curve surface edges.
