English I 9 th Grade Concentrates on a Variety of literature while strengthening written

English I 9 th Grade Concentrates on a Variety of literature while strengthening written and verbal communication skills. Literature: traditionally includes short stories, poetry, The Odyssey, To Kill a Mockingbird, science fiction and non-fiction (including research). Grammar: concentrates on effective use of punctuation, subject-verb agreement, pronoun use, and other traits evident in effective communication. Writing: focuses composition skills with appropriate emphasis on purpose, organization, and effectiveness. Currently has a state-mandated End-of-Course Exam

English II, English III, and English IV English Description English II 10 th Grade

They have a grasp of standard knowledge and skills. • Tend to be different opportunities for enrichment, such as additional readings and more complexstyle writing. • Worth up to 5 quality grade points (toward GPA)

In Summary ALL ENGLISH • Needed EVERY year to be promoted to the next grade level • Follows the same basic Standard Course of Study • Emphasizes reading, communication, and thinking. • Will earn 1 English credit per year if successfully completed 9 th grade options • Academic or “Regular” Skinny will be paired year-long with World History • Honors: semester- long; strongly encouraged to have a teacher recommendation for such placement • English or Honors English Paideia: year-long; strongly encouraged to have teacher recommendation for honors
